Tomas arrived in San Francisco on January 24, 1897 joined by two friends. A Spanish Basque, Tomas was originally from Maya, Spain. He moved to Buttonwillow to work for Miller and Lux as a sheepherder.
When he moved to Bakersfield Tomas lived on Quincy Street.
The Echenique brothers married Etchevery sisters.
Tomas married Jeanne Etcheverry in 1908.
