Jim Saba, born August 23, 1928, in Bakersfield, CA to parents, Mike and Nazera Saba, died at his home in Bakersfield on May 2, 2006. A service will be held at 9:00 a.m., in the Greenlawn Mortuary Chapel on River Blvd., on Friday, May 5, 2006. A lifelong resident of Bakersfield, Jim attended Freemont Elementary School and graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1946. He earned his Associate of Arts Degree from Bakersfield Junior College. Jim was called to active duty in 1953 while a member of the Naval Reserves. He served aboard the USS Seminole until 1955. After completing his military service, Jim continued what he loved most: his career at Saba’s Men’s Store. One cannot think of Saba’s, Mike Saba. His brothers, Al and Jack, and the generation of son, Steve and nephew, Gerry, carry on the family tradition of a truly unique men’s clothing and uniform store. Jim took much pride in their longtime respected reputation. Golf and running were enjoyments over many years. he belonged to several local organizations including the Masonic Lodge, Meudell Oildale, Scottish Rite, Footprinters, American Legion, Elks Club, and Bakersfield Country Club. Jim was a loving husband for thirty-eight years to Dawn Louise who preceded him in death in 1991. Also preceding him in death was his daughter-in-law, Linda Saba. He is survived by brothers, Al and his wife, Neva, and Jack and his wife, Elizabeth; sons, Steve and Tome and his wife, Gina, and daughter, Jacqueline Saba Owens and her husband, Rusty; grandchildren, Anthony Saba and his wife, Trisha, and Stephanie Rehkoph and her husband, Clint, James Owens, Dawn Owens, and Russell Owens and Jack Saba and Molly Saba; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Rehnkoph and Wyatt Rehkoph and Haley Saba and Erik Saba; nieces, Nancy Garrison and husband, Geoff, and Anne Beth Hallock and her husband, Lee; and nephews, Gerry Saba and Mike Saba and his wife, Dana. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory may be sent to the Police Activities League (PALL), 301 East Fourth Street, Bakersfield, CA 93307.
