As demand fell off, in the 50s and 60s and customers found alternative modes of transport we lost that level of service. Amtrak started offering intercity passenger service in 1971.Southern Pacific Depot, postcard from 12 September 1918. The driver of this car, Mrs. Nova M. The car had become stalled on the crossing, Mrs. Gilmore said, just as the train was leaving the station. She leaped from the car before the slowly moving train struck. This picture was taken in the summer of 1943.
