The family business was started by Lebanese immigrants Mike and George Saba, who’d made their way to Bakersfield from San Francisco and established a general merchandise store in 1920. By 1934, the business evolved into a men’s apparel retailer.

Saba’s opened March 1, 1934. It is located at 915 Baker Street Bakersfield, CA 93305. The original store was destroyed in an earthquake in 1952 but the Saba family rebuilt a new store in 1953. Jack Saba tells his story.
