During this decade, Old Town Kern would see new businesses created while others passed down to the next generation.
In the 1950s, Josephine Amestoy bought the family business, the Amestoy Hotel. Josephine operated the hotel for eleven years before she sold it to Frank’s brother Raymond Maitia in 1964.
In 1954 J. B. and Mayie Maitia opened the Wool Growers Restaurant on Sumner Street. Around 1974 the Wool Growers moves to its current location on Twenty-first Street, operated today by three generations Mayie, her daughter Jenny and Christiane.
During the early 1960s Frank Maitia sold his Basque Café to Raymond Echeveste.
