Welcome to OldTownKern.com, a website dedicated to capturing the history of East Bakersfield. Old Town Kern is centered, from north to south, on Baker Street with Sumner Street at its epicenter. Originally it was named Sumner after the local judge and mine owner Joseph W. Sumner. Sumner would be renamed Kern City before becoming East Bakersfield.
